There are many interesting tourist attractions in Sardinia. Although we associate it primarily with the Emerald Coast, it is also worth seeing other interesting places. We will definitely spend many nice moments here.
Nuoro and Gennargentu
The steep streets of Nuoro adjoin the top of a steep mountain ridge. They open in every direction. Dating from the nineteenth century, the cathedral of Santa Maria della Neve is located above the cliff, falling straight into the valley. It is worth seeing the charming little square in front of the church. Nuoro is a great base for exploring Gennargentu. These are the rugged and beautiful mountains of Sardinia https://wakacjenasardynii.pl/ . Mamoiada is a particularly interesting village. It seems that many places are barely touched by the 20th century, let alone by the 21st century. It is certainly a fascinating region in which towns adhere to steep slopes. Here we can learn many local customs that still originate from antiquity. However, driving is not here for the faint hearted. The roads here are narrow and steep and relapses are almost impossible, there are no barriers here. If we want to get to know the village and their often strange customs, let’s go to the unique Museum of Sardinian Traditions. This museum is already worth the trip to Nuoro. It is here that we can see the best collection on the island (and well presented) of Sardinian dress and decorative art. This is a typical outfit of residents, with jewelry and accessories, worn at weddings and festivals. We can also see traditional masks here. It is also worth going to the National Archaeological Museum. There are collections excavated from Neolithic sites as well as fossils.skamieniałości.
Prehistoric sites of Arzachena
One of the largest clusters of attractions from the Stone and Bronze Age is located just a few kilometers from the resorts of Costa Smeralda. However, it seems forgotten by the whole world. To six noteworthy places we can include nuraghi, burial sites and interesting chamber tombs, called by the inhabitants of tomba gigante (graves of the giants). The main tomb of Coddu Vecchiu is a tunnel tomb from the 18th century. It had an entrance facade of flat stones, added a few centuries later. Li Lolghi’s grave has a similar entrance, but with a 3.5-meter standing stone. In the nearby necropolis of Li Muri there were stone graves, located in a circle of flat standing stones, once covered with hills of the earth. Nuraghi Albucciu is unusual because it is oval and one side formed by a large stone. In contrast, Nuraghe La Prisgiona is the last of the excavated, central tower with two side towers and the remains of the village. This region is known for rocks, often destroyed by the wind. They have strange shapes. It looks like a big mushroom from afar.
Valle dei Nuraghi (Nuraghi Valley)
It is surrounded by cones of ancient volcanoes. It’s a wide, flat valley. There are scattered eroded rock formations. Prehistoric sites are also located there. Noteworthy is above all the 16-meter antique Nuraghe Santu. Santu Antine was built in the 16th century BC. It consists of the three largest and most complex on the island, three towers connected by a defensive wall. Worth to see her. You can climb the stairs to the second and third floor, which are intact. The central tower has thick walls. We can follow the upper corridor from west to north towers. When we get to the top, we will have a view of several other nuraghi. The San’tAndrea Priu is nearby. The tombs were carved in the rock somewhere between 4000 and 3000 BC. In the Middle Ages they were used as hermits. Inside there are fascinating frescoes. This site is irregularly open, but we can see it from the entrance and climb the trail to see the upper ones.
Tharros
Take a walk and see the stone remains of Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman culture. Standing on a rock, we can imagine what Roman streets once looked like. There are still columns from the bathhouse, along with parts of the aqueduct and temples. The amphitheater stretches out to sea. At the top of the hill is the Phoenician necropolis (it was abandoned around 650 BC). We can also see the wonderful Museo Civico Giovanni Marongiu. Located in Cabras. We can see carved stone steles, grave urns and other finds. They are presented as they were originally found. We can see more treasures in the Antiquarium Arborense museum. Located in the small town of Oristano. Duomo Santo Maria dates from the Middle Ages and was renovated in the 18th-19th centuries. Here you can see the colored tiles covering the dome.
Bosa
We can see an extraordinary tangle of medieval streets here. There is an old stone bridge and pastel buildings along the river bank. We can climb the hill and see the Malaspina Castle. Although some go straight to the castle, let’s take some time to walk the old streets. Modest, small houses mix freely with large noble houses. The restored mansion Casa Dariu is open as a museum. We can see here furnished rooms and an art gallery. The castle has a 13th-century chapel in which we can admire unusual frescoes from the 14th century. The coastal road north of Bosa to Alghero is spectacular and does not scare us at all, despite the altitude above sea level.
Treat yourself to an all-inclusive holiday in Sardinia and you certainly won’t regret it.
